More Than a Game: NC Courage, Merz Aesthetics, and the Power of Women Supporting Women

With record crowds, a mission-driven sponsor, and a season in full swing, there’s never been a better time to cheer on the Courage.

There’s something electric about a game night at WakeMed Soccer Park. As the sun dips behind the trees in Cary and the seats begin to fill, a steady buzz builds—kids draped in Courage scarves, drums pounding from the supporter section, and fans of all ages rallying behind one of the top teams in the National Women’s Soccer League: the NC Courage.

I attended the opening match earlier this season, and while the roar of the crowd and sharp footwork on the field were thrilling, what stuck with me was the energy—both in the stands and behind the scenes. This team isn’t just chasing wins; it’s building something bigger. And they’re doing it with a powerful partner by their side: Merz Aesthetics.

Now in their fourth year as presenting sponsor, Merz has shown that their investment in the Courage is about more than logos and banners—it’s about empowering women to feel confident, strong, and supported, both on and off the field.

“We’re proud to stand with NC Courage,” says a Merz Aesthetics spokesperson, “because we believe in celebrating women’s strength—whether it’s in competition, community, or personal growth. We want them to feel successful inside and out and build a base of confidence to empower women.”

That belief carries over into their work with Dress for Success Triangle, a nonprofit that provides professional attire and career development for women re-entering the workforce. Together, Merz and the Courage have hosted donation drives, awareness events, and mentorship initiatives—turning game days into gateways for lasting impact.

And the momentum shows no signs of slowing. NC Courage continues to break attendance records, drawing more fans each season and fueling a movement for women’s sports in the Triangle. WakeMed Soccer Park, their home turf, offers an intimate yet vibrant atmosphere. The stadium’s size makes every seat feel close to the action, and the loyal fanbase makes every goal feel like a championship.

Whether you’re a longtime supporter or new to the NWSL, now is the perfect time to experience a match in person. The Courage’s season runs through the fall, with home games offering a chance to not only support elite athletes—but also be part of a larger mission.

And if you are interested in supporting the Dress for Success initiative, consider donating, volunteering or hosting your own clothing drive. For more information, visit dfstrianglenc.org/donate.
