Irregardless Celebrates 50 Years with a 2005-Inspired Dinner

THROWBACK MENU. Raleigh’s Irregardless (901 W Morgan Street, Raleigh) restaurant continues its 50th anniversary celebration with its next Through the Decades -2005 dinner on Thursday, September 18, 4:30-9 p.m. Guests can enjoy a prix-fixe dinner menu with a choice of appetizer/salad, an entree (Moroccan spiced confit chicken leg, seared scallops or fried oyster mushrooms), and a dessert (salted creme caramel or Nutella cream puffs). The dinner is $65. Reservations are required.

NEW CONCERT SERIES. The Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex will kick off the new On The Steps Concert Series with a performance by Grammy-nominated Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. The series continues on Wednesday, October 22 with a performance by country singer Rissi Palmer. The concerts are limited to 100 patrons. Tickets are $35.

WINNER, WINNER. Sassool Mediterranean Café is celebrating the winner of this year’s annual Hummus Mix-Off, Christian Hoover, who created smoked maple hummus. The flavorful blend of maple syrup, dark brown sugar and smoky seasoning will be featured at Sassool’s locations in Raleigh and Cary throughout September as the monthly special.

SEE THE SWIFTS. The Willard (9 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh) and The Roof at The Durham (315 East Chapel Hill Street, Durham) will host free family-friendly Swift Night Out events this September. Guests will have the chance to speak with local experts and witness the mesmerizing evening display of chimney swifts as they swirl across the sky before roosting in nearby chimneys. The Willard event takes place on Wednesday, September 17, 5:45-8 p.m., while The Roof hosts a get-together on Wednesday, September 24, 6:30-8 p.m.  

KICK BACK. Jazz in the Square takes place at Moore Square (201 South Blount Street, Raleigh) on Thursday, August 21, 6-8 p.m. The free performance features the North Carolina Central University Jazz Collective. Food trucks will be on site, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for lawn seating. 

BROADWAY CLASSIC. Tickets are on sale for Disney’s Beauty and the Best: The Musical at Durham Performing Arts Center from Tuesday, September 2-Sunday, September 14. The 16-show run is part of the first North American touring production in more than 25 years and includes the classic songs “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

RIDING A BIKE. Dix Park’s Gipson Play Plaza hosts an all-ages Learn to Ride a Bike program on Saturday, August 27, 9-11 a.m. The program is designed for gaining the skills to ride a bike without the use of training wheels. Participants are provided with a balance bike (a bicycle without pedals or training wheels) and helmet. An instructor will be on hand to learn the basic skills. The event is free, but registration is required. 

FILM BUFFS. Beyond: The Cary Film Festival takes place at The Cary Theatre from Thursday, September 11-Sunday, September 14. The annual short film and screenplay festival brings together industry professionals and guests from around the country to participate in panel discussions and workshops. The event includes 24 independent films in competition alongside filmmaking workshops.
