If you’re a tequila lover, every day can be considered National Tequila Day. But if not, you can look forward to July 24 as a day to raise a glass to one of Mexico’s most iconic spirits—and this year, Superica at Fenton in Cary is joining in on the celebration. With a trio of handcrafted tequila cocktails and two curated flights created for National Tequila Day, the restaurant is turning tradition into temptation.
But before these drinks hit the menu (running from July 22-28), we were invited in for an exclusive first taste—and let’s just say, these aren’t your standard margaritas. From bold flavors to refreshing twists, these cocktail highlights the depth and versatility of tequila, crafted with care by Superica’s talented bar team.
Here’s what you can expect to sip at Superica in honor of the holiday…
100 Grand Margarita ($30)
The 100 Grand Margarita is a twist on the classic margarita that proves sometimes more is more. Built on a base of Don Julio 70 Cristalino Añejo, this cocktail marries the refined complexity of aged tequila with the bright citrus punch of Cointreau, fresh lime juice and some silver glitter dust—because, why not? It’s a simple build, but elevated—and the final touch? A silver sugar rim that shimmers like it belongs behind glass at a jewelry store.
“I made this cocktail to be similar to a Sidecar,” Creasy says. “So it’s going to be a little less sweet than a regular margarita, but that’s why I gave it a sugar rim.”
Superita! ($22)
Back by popular demand, and we can see why! The Superita was our favorite drink of the evening. It’s Superica’s version of a Mexican Martini—Ocho Plata, Combier, fresh lime and orange juices, olive brine and a citrus-marinated olive.
“There’s a cocktail in Austin, Texas, called the Mexican Martini. I took the cocktail and tweaked it a little bit,” Creasy says. “I used olives we marinate in lime and citrus zest, as well as a little bit of the olive brine, as if you’re making a dirty martini.”
Alamo Gold Old Fashioned ($15)
The final cocktail we tried was the Gold Rush Old Fashioned. It’s Superica’s bold, smoky tribute to the legendary treasure rumored to be buried at The Alamo. It’s a drink that hits all the right notes—smoke, spice and just a touch of sweetness.
Made with Corazón Reposado tequila, agave nectar, Angostura bitters, a splash of Ancho Reyes and grilled orange, the cocktail leans into the richness of its ingredients without feeling heavy. That grilled orange isn’t just for garnish either—it’s muddled into the drink to enhance the cocktail’s deeper, more savory elements.
“We grilled orange slices to muddle in there to emphasize the flavors of our wood-burning grill, which is a huge hallmark to Superica’s style,” said Creasy.
And if you’re looking to try your tequila neat, well, Superica has you covered with two flights. The Don Julio Flight ($35) features a sample of Don Julio Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and 70th Anniversary Cristalino. And the Corazón Tequila Flight ($15) features pours of Corazón Blanco, Corazón Reposado, and Corazón Añejo.
